Product Description
The Slater UL tent series derives it's inspiration from the Fly Creek UL series. The Slater is light and fast like the Fly Creek but comes with extra floorspace in the 1+ and 2+ sizes. Whether it's just you or you and your dog, the extra space comes at little cost in this minimalist free standing shelter. Another unique feature to the Slater is its absence of mesh. Big Agnes replaced the mesh walls on the tent body with lightweight breathable nylon rip-stop for that extra bit of warmth and privacy, or just to keep the sand and wind out when you're headed to the desert. I was hesitant about buying this tent, as I couldn't find any reviews. After much researching, and narrowing it down to a few tents, I decided to give this a try. I did find a Youtube video of someone who has the Slater 2 - person, so after watching that,I liked it, and I bought it.I had very specific wants in a backpacking tent that have been hard to find, namely......little or NO mesh, under 2 pounds, free standing, and a single pole system. I have been using a bivy shelter, so small and not much of a vestibule is not an issue for me, but this may bother some.The tent is super light. You could use it without the rain fly in warmer weather, and the door unzips to provide a mesh screen for seeing out. I really like it, and it compares to some of the others I was checking out, like the MSR Nook, etc.It's expensive, but I wish I had spent the extra bucks to buy the two person. I was really try to go light, and didn't want the extra ounces.The material is very thin, so I will make a footprint for it, as I think it will help with wear and tear. They do sell one for this tent.There is some condensation, to be expected with it being fully enclosed, but you can unzip the door and use the mesh screen, with the rain fly on, and this helps with air flow. Again, I am a cold weather backpacker, and this tents fully enclosed design will keep me as warm as the bivy shelter. It's the closet thing I could find for a four season tent, without the weight. I haven't used it in the heat of summer, or in any storms, so I will update. As for me and my search for the perfect tent for years, now......I love it!
