Awesome Tent

Purchased this as a replacement for our aging tent -- the view of the stars at night through the roof mesh is fantastic and no worrys about being bitten by the mosquitoes. Only complaint is it a large pack size when it is disassembled.

Halo 4P

I bought the Halo 4P just a couple of months ago but haven't had the chance to take it out yet. I did however try and set it up in the rec room and found it easy for a single person. The tent is made of quality material. The seams are double stitched and overall it's a great tent. I've had a number of tents over the years and by far this is the Cadillac. The Halo concept makes all the deference when it comes to room. You would think that with the walls being more vertical it would be impacted by the wind but actually the rain-fly adds the curvature back making it a great high-wind tent. The only negative would be the cost. Yes it's a little pricey but in the tent world, you get what you pay for.....

we recently upgraded from a 2 person to the halo 4.we have a 4 year old son and we were impressed by all the space and good ventilation.friends of ours assumed it was a 6 person tent.we recently set up during a wind storm and wondered whether side pegging would have helped since the wind was rushing under the tent lifting the tent off our tarp.we weren,t sure it would hold just on the corner stakes. overall,the right buy, thanks

Great tent, great value

We have more than a few Kelty products in our camping arsenal so when we were looking for a mid-size tent to go along with the backpacker and the big Eureka and saw this Kelty in our price range, we had to check it out. After reading reviews on other sites we decided to give it a try and last summer it was the only tent we ended up using after we received it. From our experience:Pros:1) Like I said, great value! You can pretty much spend whatever you want on a tent, meaning if you are inclined to blow $800, there's a tent out there for you. The fact is, UNLESS you are looking to camp on top of snow in the dead of winter, I think most people are like us and can get away with a good 3 season tent. This one fits the bill and is available for well under $200.2) Set up - I expected the first time out of the box for this thing to take me about 20 minutes or so. I've set up plenty of tents in the past and it usually takes that long just to get all the parts in place. I also try to set them up on my own the first time out just to see what it's like. Anyway, I dumped this thing on the ground and literally had it up in under 10 minutes. I can't find any faults in that respect. It also packs really small so in the carry bag provided you can fit the footprint (recommended), a small tarp for inside (I always put a tarp over the floor to protect it and for extra waterproofing), extra stakes, hammer, etc..3) In use - while we had mostly good weather, there were a few tricky nights. Specifically one night on the coast of Maine a storm rolled thru with high winds and sheets of rain. Not a drop got in and, though I was up half the night watching over things, my wife slept soundly. We really feel the overall quality of the tent is excellent. One thing we find annoying: tents that have zipper issues. Meaning half the time when you zip it up, you get parts of the tent stuck in the track and have to work it back out - we found this phenomenon often happens in the middle of the night. These zippers work beautifully all around.Cons:1) Boy, we don't really have any. I would like to note that we are a couple so this tent, size wise, is fine for us. Now if you're going to stick 4 people in there, you better all like each other ALOT as you'll have that footprint pretty well covered up. I'd actually suggest if you are more than 3, move up a size to the T.R.6.. It's always nice to have some extra room for gear and just all around comfort. Don't kid yourself an think you'll have a lot of room in those vestibule areas either - they basically provide just enough room for you to fit a little welcome mat to put your hikers on.We are extremely happy with this tent and will be using it more often than not on our future trips. A great mid-size tent that we can highly recommend. And on a nice night, pop the rainfly off and you'll have great views all around.

Great tent

This tent has been absolutely great. The tent has enough room inside for our queen size, double thick air mattress plus luggage. We went through a very crazy thunderstorm in Florida in this tent where it rained all night with not one leak. It's a bit too big for a back-packing tent, but for all other use, this tent is the best I've ever owned.The rain fly is huge, covers the whole tent. Has a couple of vents you can close in case of a storm like we got.The poles are very good quality.The zippers function well, no issues.The floor of the tent feels super thin like it would tear easily, but it hasn't. Must be a good material.The setup is pretty easy and doable by yourself. I'd recommend setting it up once at home to figure it out so you're not fumbling around in the dark trying to understand the clips for the small poles. But once you've done it once, it's cake.

great value, super roomy but not all season

it was really easy to set up and has so much room inside. the rain fly has to be up to stake the tent in and make it wind stable. it is really big though. we wanted to use it as a roomy 2 person tent but the additional amount of air made it harder to heat up.the other thing was that it rained a lot when i used it and it also started snowing and I woke up to water dripping through the rain fly and into the tent. It wasn't a ton but probably enough drops through the night to provide discomfort to me.i think it will be an excellent tent for the summer weather as it is very airy and has plenty of changing and storage space.

The designer lived in it

Being elderly, I mostly motorcycle camp, so I can go with a little more weight than if I were back packing. But here I am using a 3 person tent for myself and my inflatable mattress. Total comfort as the mattress fills 2/3 of the floor space leaving plenty or room for "stuff". The tent goes together and breaks down in a snap, perfect for single person set up.I have back packed for 45 years and been through a lot of equipment. This tent is the most intuitively well designed that I have seen. The design of the zippers is great, the easy on clips, the easy on rain fly and vestibule design are all well done. Almost half the weight is in the rain fly, so if you know that you are going to just need bug protection the tent without rain fly is much lighter to pack for hiking. I felt like I really got my money's worth on this product. Kelty seems to be keeping up its reputation.

Solid tent at a solid price

I enjoy quality gear, and this tent is replacing my Marmot Limelight 2 that is just a little small for me now. The Kelty is perfect so far... wouldn't change a thing minus perhaps including the footprint, but that's industry standard for the most part. Aesthetically pleasing, and ruggedized to boot. I would say you can't find a better tent for the price, but then I'd see more of these out on the trails and I would no longer have a 5 pound Taj Mahal all to myself ;)

Older Gunnison had better setup

I have a 2 person Kelty Gunnison that I purchased in 2007. It has seen lots of use and remains in very good condition. I decided to try the 3 person version to gain some extra room. Got the extra room as expected but definitely don't like the new method of attaching the poles to the corner straps nor the clips used in attaching the rain fly to those same straps. To attach the poles you have to snap the round ends into a hard plastic receptacle that makes up the corner strap. The key word here is "hard," as I have found it a little difficult to achieve the "snap in," and even harder to remove the poles ("snap out") from the straps when breaking camp. I've only used the new tent a few times so far and have already had the round pole tip separate from the tube while trying to get the pole free of the corner strap. Not a major problem so far since you can easily reinsert the round tip back into the pole. I would imagine that the more often this unwanted separation of the tip from the pole occurs with a given pole, the less secure that connection will become. Luckily, I will only be using this tent for car camping and should always have a set of pliers on hand when removing the pole tips from the hard plastic straps.To attach the rain fly to the corner straps requires another "snap in" process using the hard plastic strap unit and a plastic clip on the end of the rain fly corner. Again, this "snap in" has been a little difficult to accomplish both in attaching and removing the clip. The plastic clip and attaching point seem like they may be prone to breaking, especially given that it takes some pressure to both snap and unsnap the clip.My older Kelty Gunnison has a very simple pole and rain fly attachment setup that I feel certain will outlive the plastic mechanism on the newer tent. And the older setup requires little to no pressure in making the various connections. If Kelty had stayed with the older, simpler and more basic mechanism for the newer Gunnisons, I would be much happier with the new tent.

Great solid tent for rough weather.

I did not find many reviews of this tent before I purchased it so thought I would contribute. This is a great base camp tent for rough weather. It took a bit longer than other tents to put up but once up it felt secure against wind, rain, and snow. I have only used it once on a two night camp-out with our Boy Scout troop. I was specifically looking for a tent that would hold up for winter camping and keep the cold winds outside.The interior is a good size for one person and gear inside. The entryway provided additional storage for a camp chair. It also was a nice place to take off my boots before entering the tent. There were several loops inside where I could hang a small flashlight, shirt, etc. There was some good storage area on the sides and overhead made of netting. I could not find a footprint so used a tarp doubled over.There are better tents for backpacking as this weighs close to 10 pounds. My enthusiasm for this tent is in part for the clearance price of $189 bought at a different web site.This really should last many years for my 9 to 12 camp-outs each year. I suspect I'll use a different three season tent from late Spring to early Fall unless rain is in the forecast.

Great family tent for rainy conditions

We like to go camping as a family during the summer. There are four of us, two are small children. There is plenty of room on the inside with my wife an I each with an inflatable mattress and the two kids lie on the floor in their sleeping bags. We made in through several rainstorms and heavy winds at the Philadelphia Folk Fest. Many other tents and canopies in the area were flooded and blown away, but inside our tent we were completely dry. What is great about this tent is that the rainfly provides a roomy garage area where you can stuff much of your equipment, chairs and other items to keep them dry. Also the poles are made of aluminum and not as likely to bend as fiberglass. This is a great choice for a family tent.

Fantastic Family/Base Camp Tent

This tent was new ground for me. After years of minimalistic backpacking, I eventually purchased this tent for camping with my young and growing family. There are lots of big family camping tesnts out there. Having used Big Agnes products in the past (indeed, having grown up at the foot of the Big Agnes namesake), the decision to buy this tent was a no-brainer. I still happy with my choice.Pros: This tent is big. Real big. Big enough for a queen-sized air mattress, a baby Pack-N-Play portable crib, diaper changing station, and a plethora of clothes and equipment. The rain fly is huge, and covers all of the tent walls. But, the best part of this tent is the vestibule (the covered entrance to the tent). Cheap tents have token vestibules or none at all. The vestibule on this tent is almost big enough to park a SUV. Slight hyperbole aside, when it rains, we pull all our equipment into the vestibule (stove, firewood, backpacks, Bob stroller, etc). This tent is easy to set up, too. We went camping with friends. They brought their Coleman tent (of about the same size), we brought our new and yet-to-be-used King Creek. We had our tent set up (for the first time) in 1/3 the time it took to set up the Colman tent. The tent poles are beefy, and the whole package fits easly into the bag.Cons: If you get this tent, get the made-to-spec floor tarp, too (and additional accessory). The floor of this tent is fairly light and thin. After the first use, we got a few micro holes in the floor from a few not-so-smooth rocks in the dirt. This is common for most tents. Not a biggie.Highly recommended.

Great Family Tent

We purchase our Big Agnes King Creek 6 for about $420 from HumbleOutdoors, it came with a free BA footprintWe like to car camp in New England. It's my wife, myself, and a lot of stuff. There is tons of room inside this tent our inflatable queen mattress. The Big Agnes King Creek 6 is a basic bomb proof well made tent. The kind of tent that you use and enjoy for 20 years. You get what you pay for, and the King Creek 6 fits the bill. I would recommend getting a footprint, and packing separate from the tent. It really helps keeping things clean, and extending the life of the tent.

Lightweight and compact, the multipurpose three-person tent is ideal for backpackers who want to travel light. The tent is outfitted with a durable, shock-corded, freestanding fiberglass frame and a ring-and-pin/pole pocket assembly, making it easy to set up and extremely stable once it's open. Campers will also appreciate the pair of side-opening D-style doors, which are made entirely of no-see-um mesh. Not only do the doors add airflow to the tent--especially in conjunction with the pair of windows and side roof vents--but they also allow campers to enter and exit the tent without stumbling over their tentmates.

Not a four season tent

I just got it and set it up today. It's a nice day and I had no problems setting it up. However the tent is poorly made. The tent itself bunches at the corners (almost like there is too much material for the tent). Also the rain fly goes to the ground at the ends of the tent, but it is a good 4-5 inches off the ground on the sides of the tent. A heavy wind could easily get between the tent and rain fly and cause some trouble. And a driving rain would get the exposed 4-5 inches of tent wet. Plus the zippers are of poor quality. I only set this up once, and the zipper was already coming apart. I was able to zip it back to the origin and rezip it, but it felt fragile and not made for a lot of wear. It comes in a nylon bag, has stakes (small), and some nylon cords with plastic hooks. All in all it looks nice, just don't expect it to wear well with a lot of use or in wind, rain or snow. I put in I want to return it and am waiting to see what the seller says. If there's a problem with returning it, I'll be back to give another review.

Not strong enough for 4 Season and fits for 2 people

The tent came with a set up instruction in Chinese only.Two front door poles shown in the picture were missing though. Seller said manufactuer is not making the front door poles and the picture should have corrected. They offered extra 10% discount for the wrong pic.We tried the tent to stay overnight at the park and noticed each seamline of door zippers is not tight enough to block rain.Space was supposed to fit for 3 people but barely accommodated a couple who are shorter than 6ft.I requested returning through Amazon a week ago but the seller has not responded.Design & fabric color was nice though.

Worst Tent Ever

Didn't get to use it until now. The zippers pull apart in a moderate wind and get stuck when trying to zip it up. It also leaked in a moderate rain. It is also difficult to put up. The tent stakes bend easily. I have camped in numerous styles of tents for over 40 years in many different climates and situations and this rates as one of the worst tent's I have ever used.
