My first impression of this tent straight out of the box was that it was a little heavy at around 11 lbs but then i figured that i wouldn't be hauling a four person tent by myself and the weight could be split between two or more people so I wasn't that concerned. After setting the tent up without the rain fly in my living room, I was extremely impressed. There was plenty of room for me, the wife and my son for a comfortable nights sleep. The double doors were a plus and the zippers were extremely smooth and quiet. The entire tent is made up of mesh with a bathtub floor which provides for good ventilation. The seams are all taped which is a plus for a tent at this price point, however the floor of the tent has a seem on the bottom in the middle of the tent floor which is a big negative even though it is also taped. I set up the tent with the rain fly in my back yard on a windy day (20-30mph). The vestibules where fairly roomy but after being set up for about 20 minutes, one of the poles gave way and one side of the tent collapsed. I set it back up and about 10 minutes later it was collapsed again. This time one of the fiberglass poles was snapped in half and ripped a hole through the rain fly. The fiberglass poles are very unstable and heavy. Also the non vestibule sides of the rain fly touched the side of the mesh on the inner wall of the tent. Even if the rain fly is guyed out it does not fix this problem. I really think this would be a great tent if the poles were aluminum. I returned this tent and will probably opt for a Kelty brand.

Good tent for the money

Purchased at Cabela's for $120. So much better than any cheapo tent you get at wal-mart. Can withstand wind and rain, will not blow over and will keep you dry. Have used approx 30 nights in last 6 months, did break one of the fibreglass poles but was able to fix, will probably replace with aluminum alloy poles because of excessive use. Just big enough for queen size inflatable mattress, not much extra room. Great tent for 2 people to camp comfortably. At first thought 2 doors was excessive but can't imagine with only one door after I got used to it. Vestibules very handy to keep things dry. Could use some extra ventilation in rainfly.

American Recreation owns Slumberjack, Sierra Designs and Kelty.This tent, the Slumberjack trail tent is based off the same design as the Kelty - Trail Ridge (comes in 2, 3, 4, 6 person designs)This tent also shares similar designs with the higher end Sierra Designs - Yahi tents (4, 6 person design)Main Differences:Slumberjack Trail Tent model main difference: fibreglass poles, no vents rainfly design, thinner coating for the nylon covers, clip system for rainfly.Kelty Trail Ridge main differences: DAC DA17 poles, 2 air vents for rainfly, thicker 1800mm coating for nylon, top gera loft net, clip system for rainfly.Sierra Designs Yahi main differences: Slightly different roof design, air vents and sew-free window, thicker 3000 coating for floor, Superseal Floor, m hub pole junction, 360 zipper door, clip system for rain fly and jakes foot pole attachment.Basically these tents are well built, well designed. If your on a budget and want a high end tent with all the nice features get the slumber jack, just realize that there are no vents unless you open up a vistibule doorway, might not be very fun in the rain and wind.If your looking for a bit more durability and camp 2-3 times a year, grab the Kelty version as it has vents and poles are made of DAC DA17 material that are very sturdy and durable, plus the nylon coating is 20% thicker.If your an avid camper looking to camp 5 times a year or more for long periods of time, grab the Sierra Designs version. They are all based on the same basic design but contain more durability and comfort features as you move up.Regardless, with all three designs, they are all amazingly built and well designed well above the average tent, it is important to add a tarp for footprint underneath to ensure you dont prematurely ruine your floor tent material through punctures and non ideal camping surfaces.Enjoy, hope this helps!

The Backside T-10 tent can be used all year long no matter what the weatherman says. This tent features a double stitch and bar-tack design for a longer tent life. Beefy-Boy tent clips keep poles secure. The tent clips into rain fly to keep you safe and warm. The snow baffles at the bottom keep out all of the elements.

Not as well made as it used to be

First, I'd like to caution anyone looking at reviews for this tent that are based on one they bought years (or decades) ago. Like other reviewers, I first purchased one of these tents around 1980. I would have given my 1980 model five stars, but I can only give the newer model three.As far as the tent's design - it is called a backpacking tent but is a bit on the heavy side unless you fill it with four people. This can work if they are not too big and they leave their gear outside. The optional vestibule is nice, but is more useful for storing muddy boots than gear due to its small size. The design is classic and it still works. But we have had trouble with these tents.Our Boy Scout Troop has purchased 8 of these over the years - four initially, plus two a year later, plus two more two years after that. The tent is more or less unchanged over my older model, except for two items. One is that the plastic tent pole attachment piece is considerably stronger than my older tent, a big improvement as some people had trouble with this part breaking in cold weather.The second change is in the shock cord material. My much older tent had thinner shock cords on the fly and tent peaks, while these newer models have heavier shock cord. This has not been a change for the better - I have had to replace ALL (10 per tent) of these shock cords because the rubber breaks inside the cloth material. Sometimes it breaks in many places, leading me to believe that the rubber material is breaking down, not simply snapping. At first, I thought that the Scouts were mistreating the tents - so I retrained them on how to care for the tents and have kept an eye on them as they are set up and taken down. But since then, the Scoutmaster has had it happen to his personal Timberline which no one other than himself has used. This is some sort of material defect since these tents were made in several different lots over the past 5 or so years. Therefore, I cannot rate this tent as high as I would have based on my 30 year old Timberline.By the way, if this happens to you, you can order the shock cord, special pliers, and metal fasteners online from marine suppliers because they are used to make custom shock cords for boat covers.-Bryan Freeman

Eureka Timberline 4- Your last four person tent!

I got this tent when I was 17 years old. I am now 33. It has served me faithfully 17 years in 10 different states, including northern Maine. It's sturdy, and setting it up is easy as pie after the first one. I put a little TLC into this tent every year by putting some seam sealer on it but that's it. I am a big guy, (6 foot 1) and I treat this tent more like a really big two person tent. My two kids and I sleep in this tent with no problem! It fits a queen size airmattress no problem. Eureka is the king of customer service, and many accessories are available. While this tent may seem "plain jane" compared to other tents now available, it's ease to take care of and quick set up make this a great first tent for new comers or a perfect tent for those getting back into the sport of tent camping.-Todd Wardwell

An old friend

Like others here, I purchased my Timberline in 1976 when I was new to scouting and I'm still using it. I needed to replace the rainfly about 5 years ago after years of UV exposure and since Eureka still makes parts for this long-running model, it was easy to order. New tents have a factory-sealed rainfly and floor but you'll need to treat the other exposed seams in the bottom corners and under the windows. This is standard tent care & maintenance and well worth the short time it takes to seal. Once I've done it...this tent is ready for another year of use. Hands down...one of the finest tent designs there is! I backpack year-round with my original 2-person and car or canoe camp with my newer 4-person version. Happy Trails to All!

Seal the Seams

Overall, this is a nice tent.PROS: Expected Coleman quality construction. The Zippers are nice, smooth, no snags, and water tight. The tent is light, easy to pack, easy to set up, even in the dark. The tent has a lot of ventilation to avoid internal condensation. Fits a queen size air mattress with some room for shoes, gear, and backpacks. Great price, good value. I'll be using this tent for several years hopefully.CONS: This tent leaks at the seam where the floor meets the sides. It rained for 10 hours the second time we used it, 1.5 inches of rain. Everything near the sides of the tent was soaked. I could see the water seeping through the seams. You must seam seal this tent before using it in the rain. The rain-fly worked fine, and we stayed dry enough to survive the night. I bought some seam sealer and will be sealing this tent for our upcoming camping trip. It's airy. It was in the low 50's the night it rained and it took some effort to stay warm and dry. There is no built in way to cover the large mesh vents under the rain fly. The large air vents are good for reducing condensation, but does not hold in much heat. I am thinking about making some Velcro attachable vent covers to hold in some heat and stay a little warmer if needed.I would recommend this tent for camping where it doesn't get very chilly. Make sure you seam seal it (I think this is recommended for any tent) and bring a warm sleeping bag or extra blankets in case it gets cold.Update: 2012 Camping Season No more leaking problems since I seam sealed it with Seam Grip. It has endured several thunderstorms with no problems. The tent is holding up well... I did have to sew up a seam on the stuff sack though. On our first camping outing this season, the temperature got into the upper 20's. To keep in heat, I laid a fleece blanket over the top under the rain fly to block the vents and keep in heat. It worked great! We stayed warm! This tent has proven to be a great deal for the price.

You get what you pay for!

This tent is good for the price, but 'ware the rain! The moment I got the tent, I sealed all the seams thoroughly, then packed it up for a weekend trip. It rained all weekend, and at first I was quite pleased to be one of two people in the group to have a dry tent. That first night there was some condensation on the tent walls, but nothing to complain about. The second night, however, sure showed me. It didn't outright pour, but it did rain steadily all night, and I woke up during the night to find myself soaked. The seams didn't leak - the water came right through the fabric of the tent. The floor/tub remained waterproof, but the siding needs some significant waterproofing to make it through a rainy night.Other than the rain problem, this tent performed admirably. The zippers were waterproof, despite having been packed in such a way that the flap over the door's zipper tended to stick straight out. The ventilation was good without being terribly breezy. There's plenty of room in all directions, and it was easy to move around and change inside. Setup and takedown were a breeze, even by myself in the rain! (Just drape the fly over the top to cover the mesh.)I don't regret buying this tent, but I won't be taking it out for a wet weekend again. Curling up in a soaked sleeping bag was more character-building than I was prepared for!

The Lynx Pass 4 Person is a three season, free standing, backpacking tent. It features a DAC Combination lightweight pole system with press fit connectors, and lightweight hubs - featuring eco-friendly anodizing. All DAC poles made from TH72M aluminum: the latest technology in lightweight tent poles featuring improved durability. Fly is durable nylon rip-stop with a 1500mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Floor is durable polyester rip-stop with a 1500mm waterproof polyurethane coating. Tent body is lightweight polyester mesh and durable breathable polyester rip-stop. NOTE: Trail weight refers to poles, fly and tent body. Packed weight includes poles, fly, tent body, stakes, guy lines, stuff sacks, instructions, and packaging. Great product!

I had never setup a tent before and this was so easy with a start to finish time of 15 minutes, with rain fly. I used it for two nights of car camping with my wife and 3 year old son. I'm 6'4 and had no issue stretching out. Seems to have plenty of room for three adults and four could fit snuggly. Tent was very comfortable for mid September on Green Bay in WI. Vents helped with circulation and interior temperature. One night was much cold than last and was able to close two of the four vents for comfort. No need to buy separate gear loft in my opinion because it has plenty of usable pockets built-in (8). Plus with the two vestibules for larger gear. Didn't rain so can't comment on how well it's sealed. I'm a very inexperienced camper and that being said I have only two peeves about this tent. It may have been the way I setup rain fly but it left a two inch gap between it and the ground. I was concerned that critters would crawl underneath and get into vestibule stowed gear. Also, the floor of tent did not feel very durable. I'm sure it is but I will be buying a heavy-duty tarp for peace of mind. Time will tell. Great Tent for Group Camping

Bought this from REI. Pack weight: 7lbs. 8oz. For 3-4 people, that's very little weight per person for a sturdy shelter. Plenty of ventilation, one of the doors opens up to an awning. Massive amount of vestibule space, 52" high in the middle, with crossbars that maintain a high ceiling across the entirety of the tent. The 2012 model (this one) is currently on clearance at REI.com for half price.

Hard to beat for the price

Okay, let's be honest. This tent is 25 bucks. You're not getting a Eureka, or a Marmot, or a Big Agnes or Sierra Designs or anything else that is $100-$300 dollars. It's not for mountaineering or winter camping, and it's not going to hold up in a serious thunderstorm. But for 25 bucks, it's probably the best thing on the market for the casual outdoorsman or backpacker on a tiny budget.I bought mine for short overnight hikes and backyard camping to introduce my sons to the outdoors. The design is based on your typical military pup tent, or the Marine Corps' boot camp version of two ponchos snapped together and pitched over two end poles. But this is a bit better since it actually zips up and the ends aren't open.I was actually surprised with the tent's durability and overall performance. C'mon, I bought it at a big-box store for dirt cheap. How long should I expect it to last? I was thinking one season at most. Instead I've had this little guy for 5 years. Used it a handful of times each summer and have never really had any problems with it. It worked great for a cross-country motorcycle trip. It was small and lightweight enough to strap across the top of my sissy bar bag without changing the ride dynamic at all. Kept me dry through some sprinkles and cool nights in the Appalachians.The floor is made out of the same material as your standard blue tarp, but it's OD green. And the tent is made out of material like a windbreaker, but with a slightly rubbery feel to it, but not quite as heavy as a military poncho. It's very water resistant and will keep you dry from dew and a light shower, but it's not a heavy duty waterproof tent. I've never had water leak through the floor, and condensation is moderate inside. If you keep the flaps open on the back window, and leave the front door partway open (screened) it vents decently.If you've never pitched a pup tent, it may take you an hour the first time. But if you've ever been in the military or boy scouts, you'll be able to set this up in the dark in less than 5 minutes. If you keep your guy lines pre-tied on the sides of the tent, and looped for the main poles, you can set this up blindfolded.Another recommendation is to replace the tiny black wire stakes with some lightweight but heavy duty aluminum or titanium stakes (get them from Coghlan's or MSR). This isn't critical, but it will make it much easier to pitch and tear down. And replace the factory guy lines with some 550-cord. Spray the tent down with some waterproofing from your local camping store, and head out on the trail.Best for: backyard, weekend camping, casual outdoorsman, teaching your kids & entry level campers, people on a Wal-Mart budget.

More Room than Expected

I purchased this tent about 8 months ago as an addition to my BOB (Bug Out Bag). Its shipped quickly, and is packaged small and light. I am used to camping in a seven man tent, so I expected the two man to be very cramped. Of course, there is not exactly room for my queen sized double height air bed inside, but for two people using self inflating ground pads, it is roomier than I expected. The side lashing pulls out the tent fabric and makes a big difference in cubic feet of interior space.There are two downers for this tent imho. First, the waterproof coating, or the material used makes the surface of the tent very shiny, not what I was going for with a camouflage tent. Solution, hang a burlap hunting blind on a cord above the tent, or a camouflage tarp. Second, the support pole is right in the center of the doorway, it takes a little knack getting into and out of the tent, even for my wife who's about 5'4". I would still recommend this tent to a friend, just buy some camo netting and some paracord or something to help disguise this if that is your intention.

small items needed

I have always found myself in an a frame tent whether im camping, hunting, or doing my annual disapear into the south hills of idaho for a month. This is a good at best tent. Somethings ive DIY'd on this tent: Sewed zippers on the storm flaps, haha, more like dew storm flaps, seam seal taped ALL the seams, used my own guylines(5mm polycord), swapped the "chopsticks" for some real stakes (if you use the black ones tie some ribbon on them so you dont lose them in the bush.), and sewed zippers and the rear storm flap on the INSIDE! =)I bought this tent because i loved the price and im a camo kind of guy, the camo is a bit to light to do any real stealthy camping. Somethings i love: The thick ripstop tub floor (nice on wet ground), Zippered masquiter net, nice material for body of tent, alloy poles, low weight (I hike average 18mi a day with up to 9,500ft of change). I've had this tent for over 5months now and some signs of wear are coming up,(then again im in it every weekend, and days off, a solid 14days a month), nothing someone crafty cant repair. Ducktape! This tent is small, me, my wife, and my 20ga (old trusty), barely fit without touching the walls. Overall good little tent, will use till it turns to dust.
