Bomber Tent - absolutely rocks!
By lynn
I just got back from two weeks in the Alaska outback, kayak camping, with my Vela 1. We had 40knot gales at Alava Point one night and, tucked up against a downed tree, this baby didn't even budge. I stayed bone dry, despite being pitched in the equivalent of a muskeg swamp. I had the two ends, and the back side (2 points) anchored. While not a free-standing tent, and longer than a lot of one-man tents, this tent, is super EASY to pitch in the outback where camping spots are practically non-existent. I have taken other 1-man, free-standing tents into the outback before, but they all seem to need to have a perfect rectangle to pitch anywhere. This tent does not need that. Peg one end between a couple of blueberry bushes, the other end between a pair of Devil's club, the back against a fallen fir, and you are good to go.This tent is super durable... a bomber tent if you will. The slide-up vestibule is a bit funky as if you can't "slink" under it, your gear may get wet. But, there is lots of room inside to store most of your stuff.I'm 5'3". I had lots of room. A person over 6' might find it a bit confining as you'd have your head stuck in a section with a steep slope.I was going to sell this tent after the trip and trade it in for a lighter model. But, I'm not messing with those two very nice anchor points (which also held just fine with big rocks when we camped at a mining site). LOVE LOVE LOVE the tent. And it's super durable (I've used it a few times before with my dog - she has a little Ruffwear mat that I put in the "V").

Finicky to set up
By Paul A. Schmidt
I am about 6'05" and was looking for a lightweight one person tent. This tent had great reviews and I contacted Exped who said it should fit me no problem. I only set it up in my living room but that was enough to realize it wouldn't work for me. It's nice having the height in the middle but really uncomfortable trying to sleep with the ceiling inches from your face and sometimes in your face. The real deal killer for me was how hard it was to insert and remove the main pole in the sleeve. It was really a PITA to do. If I wanted this for the occasional weekend I could live with it, but I wanted it for a lengthy bike tour in which case I would be dreading making and breaking camp. The workmanship and quality is top notch but I don't feel it is well thought out for the above reasons.
