Solo in the Snow

For the past 8 years...this is my go-to tent for solo/winter trips. I don't think there's a better 2-person/4-season tent for the money! This tent (like my Timberlines) is free-standing which means I can pitch the tent and then move it around until I find just the right spot before staking the guylines and vestibules. I cannot say enough about the features. Double vestibules for gear, lots of extra vents that can zipped closed or left open depending on weather conditions and lots of accessory pockets to keep small items off the floor. The tent is rated for 2 people but you won't have room for much gear other than bedrolls. I use it most for solo trips and then the pack and the dog both fit, too! When I need more space...I use my K-2XT (a 3-person winter camping palace)...see my review for more on that one!

the ventalation system is good but it gets hot in the summer when the sun hits the tent! the construction is extremly sturdy I cant wait until the snow starts fallin so I can take it out to the backcountry!!! the 6 pole system is a dream, but get a foot print cuz the bottom is kind of thin without!! best purchase I have made in a while!!blaza

I received this tent on the third Friday in March. I immediately pitched it in the backyard for a little pre-backpacking weekend test run (my three and four year old boys love this!) Please note, the included instructions were very confusing. I ended up crumpling them and winging it. Without the instructions, the setup is a snap. All poles and parts are intuitively shaped and appear to be of very high quality. Start to finish in five minutes. Even quicker once you get the hang of it (staking one corner makes things much easier in the wind!)Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina, we still see chilly overnight temperatures this time of year. Friday night was no exception. The temp hovered around freezing from midnight till dawn. With the two top vents and the front and back vents cracked, the boys and I were very cozy in our three-season sleeping bags. Halfway through the night, my older son had a fit of gas. The linger effect was very prolonged with the upper vents in the "cracked" position. Opening every vent as wide as possible and making howling eww! noises immediately remedied the situation. I suppose this is a testiment to the legendary ventilation properties of this tent...Coziness was re-achieved approximately ten minutes after returning the vents to the dangerous "cracked" position.I have ordered a ground pad to place underneath the tent. I will list two reasons for my decision. First, the floor of the tent seems very thin. I worry that it could become damaged by rocks or sticks on the ground. The second reason for getting the ground pad is because I noticed some condensation beneath my sleeping bag when I awoke in the morning. It would be best described as a dampness. I guess it's possible that I had an accident while sleeping. It's been known to happen. But i dont think so because my sleeping bag was otherwise dry. Eureka recommends applying a seam sealing compound to the floor and rain fly. I have purchased a tube and will be doing so shortly.Overall, I am very pleased with this tent. It easily fits two adults and one small child or one adult and two small children. Gear is safely stored outside the front and back of the tent beneath the rain fly. I would highly recommend this product to anyone without flatulence-prone youngsters.

Catoma Falcon SpeeDome 64550F Polyester Taffetta 3 Person 48" Hex Dome Tent. Catoma Outdoor's Falcon firefighting tent includes the patented Catoma Speedome frame that features exclusive hinged poles made from solid fiberglass for extra strength and quick set-up. The poles and tent are connected so there is no need to worry about any lost poles.The specially made fly includes a light reflective material on the outside to keep the tent from getting too hot while set up during the day. The other side of the fly is coated and seam taped for waterproof camping. The Falcon is a two-man or three-man tent that works while firefighting in the forests or pitching at the campgrounds. Use the Falcon when you need a fast and reliable shelter. The hexagonal design allows for enough room to sleep and to store small amounts of gear.

This tent was packaged well. Easy to follow directions and was very simple to set up. I am an Eagle Scout and have been camping for over 35 years so the tent was pretty intuitive to set up. It says "Weathertec - guarenteed to keep you dry" on the outside. I read everything for sealing instructions prior to taking this to the woods. No requirements for sealing included and in fact it said all seams taped. I felt pretty confident. The weekend was calling for temps in the 50's and rain (not hard... just drizzle). I opened and tested the setup prior to camp. It was easy and seemed large enough. I took it out and had it set in approximately 30 seconds. The tent was spacious for two 6'2 guys and gear (cots) sleeping gear small packs and room to spare. It was shorter than expected and a bit smaller than I hoped... topping off about 5'5" at a guess and very tight with a cot (it touched the wall on both ends). The worst was the rain. It held up well to the first 1/2 hour or so but soon it was leaking. By 2am... it was damp... by morning there was about a cup of water in the floor. And the walls were soaked. The bathtub floor retained all the water. It leaked very badly. From seemingly every pore. The second night I spent alone in the dead center. Sleeping bag was soaked the tent was soaked and everything I had was damp even though it was in a chair or on a cot. It took over a day to dry the tent out to ship it back. All this from a light drizzle. Less than 1/2 inch of rain over two days. The firewood on the ground outside was dryer than the personals in my tent. On a scale of 1-10 Ease of set up 10, keeping out bugs 10, big windows 10... this could be a great shelter on a clear day but waterproof 1.

The set up and tear down is everything they advertise. Extremely easy, but watch for finger pinching! I was amazed at how quickly the tent went up putting it up by myself. Staked down, the tent is sturdy enough even in strong winds. However, mine leaked badly during a storm-water comes in the window zippers and top flaps, and I had a couple of good sized puddles under the cot legs in the morning and a steady drip on the middle of my sleeping bag. The door zipper closes at the bottom, and I found that the bottom portion of the tent bathtub floor rolled down when the door was unzipped, causing water to roll into the tent and drip down the door from there also.The other issue is lack of privacy-I'm a Mom who camps with Boy Scouts and I'm sometimes the only woman present. With no rainfly to mask the windows, I could not open them at all while I slept. The tent is airless and stuffy with all the windows closed. The four person model is almost the perfect size for a single person with a cot and gear, but even at 5'2" I could not stand up straight anywhere in the tent. It's difficult to change clothes in. The cot barely fit into the back side of the tent, but an air mattress would fit better as the bottom floor is considerably wider than the sloped up sides.Coleman has a home run here if they make a few modifications like adding a fly, ties for the window flaps, more headroom, widening the walls, and shoring up the floor area by the door.

quick and easy...

I got this tent due to the video where the ease of setup was demonstrated...it was wonderful to set up, and take down. This is not a backpacking tent, more of a family camping tent. My only complaint is the size. It is advertised as a 4 person tent, but with only two of us, it was tight with all our gear and a queen air mattress. I'll be getting the 6 person for the two of us soon and that will be good enough for me. It rained like crazy the second night out. Other than the condensation on the inside of the walls of the tent it was 99% dry. When we took out the mattress after the rain ended and packed to go home, the only wet spots on our sleeping bags were where it touched the walls, not a problem...I placed an old large towel by the door on the inside and used the towel to clean up when we entered and left and it was just fine. Great product for two kids, maybe three, but not for two adults in my opinion...I'll get the 6 person instant tent with no hesitation!!

(Mostly) Ideal for Florida Adventures

I've had this tent for about two years now. I looked for a tent suitable for my needs and couldn't find anything affordable from a known brand. I took a gamble as there were no reviews at the time of purchase here on Amazon. Thankfully all turned out well.This tent has already survived at least 8 camping trips, 6 of those hiking or kayaking. I often hike and kayak (sometimes camping on the beach, on the shores of a river or near a bay) which is what I had in mind while purchasing. I paid special attention to the "bathtub" bottom of the tent. It has kept me dry in absolute downpours (sometimes measured in inches per minute) on several occasions. I seldom use the rain-fly (opting instead for a piece of plastic drop-cloth, I do this this with all tents) as it is a bit more difficult to put on than most. The packed-down tent is a bit bulky and heavy in my internal frame bag but it fits (barely) height-wise.Pros:Fits in *my* internal frame packFairly lightBathtub bottom (that works in Florida storms)Double entranceOnly two poles (easy setup in low light)PriceCons:Stupid rain-fly design (it looks to be for snow use so it's probably fine in other environments)Not really backpack friendly (read as awkward), despite the product descriptionHeavier than a backpack tent should be (likely the bathtub bottom)A little (just a bit) condensationFiberglass poles feel a bit fragile (no problems yet)For the price and the fact it is still usable after several trips, I'm very happy with this tent. It's big enough for me (6ft tall) and and my gear, it has a good floor and it's small(ish) and light(ish) enough to allow for backpacking and kayaking. Too bad I bought a few other tents (some much more expensive) before adding this to my kit. I haven't found the perfect Florida 2-man backpacking tent yet, but this is close.

Good light weight tent for hiking. Good for 2 men and u can put your gear in the Foyer. Rain fly works great, I had this thing in a down pour and never got wet.

Not bad for the price once poles are replaced...

I bought a new Kelty Zenith 2 tent (FG poles) and then saw this Highpeak one on sale locally for only $39! - so I bought that one as well, with the intention of returning one of em. I set them up side by side indoors and here are my observations about the HighPeak when compared to the Kelty:-unknown German brand, but uber cheap and seems well made (in China).-taped seams on the fly with 2 entrances and vestibules!-slightly wider and taller than the Kelty, but a 1.5 pounds heavier, probably due to rugged PE floor (tarp material)-pole clips for speedy assembly, but clips were more difficult to open and might be hard with gloves or cold wet hands-smallish wall pockets and no gear loft.-poles made a cracking sound when bending, which is scary, since there are so many bad reviews specifically mentioning broken poles.If you can find this tent cheap and just add in the cost of replacement aluminum or quality FG poles then it makes for an awesome budget tent. Otherwise, you'll be cursing about this tent online after you break a pole out in the woods. I've emailed the company asking about the cost of replacement aluminum poles, but a week later and still no answer. Not too encouraging...

An incredible Modular Tent that does almost everything well

I had a huge challenge of finding a solid 4 season tent, that was fairly light, roomy, and allowed me the option of using it during summer. After much debate I finally got the Andromeda Tent II. The tent is a bit complicated at first but with good series of videos from exped on youtube and fantastic customer support via email, the tent has unlocked it self to me in a wonderful way. The tent is very roomy for 32sq. ft due to tunnel design and the vestibule is out of this world! 33sq ft. Making it an awesome haven from a storm, bugs, or cooking. Overall, get this tent if you want a very roomy, solid 4 season tent, with options for summer!
